The tide was falling, leaving the rocks glistening like wet coal. Mara tightened the strap
of her satchel and picked her way along the causeway.
She had come to the island to find answers, but the island had other ideas.
Behind her, the mainland was a dim smudge. Ahead, the signal tower waited in the thinning mist.
